The birth of

KD Training Institute

Before the age of 25, Kemiah experienced many traumatic events. Growing up, she lacked the skills needed to build healthy relationships due to childhood trauma. Her lived experience with trauma caused depression episodes, which later manifest into Post Traumatic Disorder, and Anxiety. Frankly, Kemiah carried her baggage with her everywhere she went.

Many of the professionals she encountered fell short in understanding her trauma responses and applying compassion and empathy to their practices. This resulted in secondary trauma and being triggered often in professional settings.

Although Kemiah struggled, she followed her passions and began teaching as an Early Childhood Educator. She pursued a higher level of education at La Sierra University in Social Work. She taught for over decade and worked with the unhoused population for eight years. In both professions, there was an incessant narrative of treating colleagues and clients with a lack of compassion and empathy. Consequently, she felt misunderstood by her peers and began noticing her career was being affected.

In a desperate attempt to seek healing, she committed to therapy in 2012. Kemiah prevailed over her struggles and childhood trauma. She understood the importance of applying compassion and empathy to others. She established a business in April of 2018. Her company’s mission is to train organizations in Trauma Informed Care. It was then that KD Training Institute was born.

Kemiah Carter invites you on her conquest to spread awareness on the importance of secondary trauma. As professionals, we can decrease the negative experience our clients have during our interactions. Kemiah’s intentions are to provide agencies with the training, and insight needed to grow as a team, to serve the communities they interact with.
